Media Scotland, News UK and The Scotsman picked up the accolades in the newspaper section of the Scottish Creative Awards in Glasgow last night.
Through a partnership between the Scottish Newspaper Society and event organisers The Drum magazine, it was the first time the Scottish newspaper industry had been recognised at the awards in its own right, with a set of four categories open only to newspaper publishers.
Media Scotland carried off two awards from the ceremony at Glasgow’s Marriott Hotel, with the Daily Record’s Road Record motoring section winning the best newspaper classified campaign/section category and also the digital campaign award for its innovative coverage throughout the Commonwealth Games.
News UK won the best newspaper display campaign/section category for The Times Scotland’s stunning Commonwealth Games wrap-around front pages produced in conjunction with SSE.
Finally, The Scotsman’s entertaining Travel Tales series for East Coast Rail won the award for the best newspaper creative solution/invention campaign.
SNS director John McLellan said: “There were some tremendous entries in all the short-lists and the winners are to be congratulated for their imaginative and exciting portfolios. I’m sure their clients are delighted too.
“It was a very successful evening and certainly raised the profile of the SNS and the newspaper industry as a whole in the wider creative media community”
The newspaper categories were judged by Carat Scotland Ltd’s chief executive Sue Holloway, VisitScotland’s head of marketing Helen Campbell, and Scottish Television’s corporate development director Steven Walker.
